You can enjoy Ashikaga Flower Park throughout the year because seasonal flowers bloom inside the park. The large wisteria trellis that is best seen in Spring is especially beautiful and popular. The "wisteria at night" that is lit up to create a magical atmosphere is well worth seeing.
The park has been praised as unfolding into scenery like that of the "Tree of Souls" in the movie Avatar directed by James Cameron. It was the only place in Japan chosen by CNN as one of the "top 10 dream destinations in the world" in 2014.
The 80-m long white wisteria tunnel is also a highlight.

Boasting a size that makes it one of the largest on the main island of Japan of Honshu, this is a beautiful park where pink moss phlox cover the ground every year from mid-April to May. The patchwork view overseen from the viewing platform is a highlight!

Kakigori Made with Nikko Natural Ice
This is ice made naturally in the cold of midwinter. There were once many natural ice shops all over Japan when there were no refrigerators. However, only five of them remain today. Three of these can be found in Nikko.
Every day in the coldest period of midwinter, snow on top of the ice is removed and it is made into thick ice little by little with much time and effort. The abundant ice made by freely whittling down this precious natural ice is refreshing and gently melts with a hint of sweetness when you eat light and simple kakigori (shaved ice) made with Nikko natural ice.

Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Waterfall
Lake Chuzenji was given its original form by the lava from an eruption of Mt. Nantai damming it up about 20,000 years ago. It once bustled with foreigners as a summer resort because of its mild climate with a circumference of approximately 25 kilometers and a depth of 163 meters at its greatest. The tranquil lake share that extends out to the foot of Mt. Nantai enjoys a difference appearance depending on the season. However, the azaleas in summer and the colored leaves in the fall are especially magnificent. We also recommend you enjoy the scenery from on the water by taking a pleasure cruise.
The area around Nikko is dotted with 48 waterfalls. The most famous of these is Kegon Waterfall. This is a grand waterfall with water from Lake Chuzenji falling down the 97-meter steep cliff in one go. You can enjoy both the magnificence created by nature and a splendid form of beauty. You can take in different views in each season. You can see stunning fresh green leaves in May, many Asian house martins fly around the waterfall in June, and the entire waterfall is colored in blue ice because thin cascades called "Jyu-ni Taki (Twelve Falls)" freeze from January to February.
Yunishigawa Kamakura Festival
You can enjoy kamakura (snow huts) and illumination displays centered on the main venue of Heike-no Sato at the traditional winter Kamakura Festival in Yunishigawa Onsen.
The mini-kamakura that emerge in the candlelight are especially popular. The magical brightness has a beauty that you will reflexively make you want to capture it in a photograph.
In addition, there are venues where you can enjoy stews or barbecues in the kamakura and sleigh rides on long snow slides, so you can have fun both during the day and at night.
This is a facility where a vast bamboo thicket extends out that allows you to pick bamboo shoots in the season. This bamboo thicket that seems to continue out in all directions attracts people with its mysterious charms. The babbling of the stream creates a pleasant and healing space.
