A pageant of “Yatai” showcasing the city of Kanuma
A festival held in the city of Kanuma since the 17th century. About 20 gorgeous “Yatai”, hand carved wooden floats, are paraded through the main streets of the city. The highlight of the festival is “Buttsuke”, when three to seven festive floats face one another and compete in a Japanese orchestral showdown. The incredible musical battle is performed late into the night. You can also take a close look at elaborate carvings on three floats exhibited in the Kanuma Yatai no Machi Central Park.
