Yayoi-sai Festival 弥生祭

A traditional festival to celebrate Nikko’s spring

A traditional festival to celebrate Nikko’s spring
This festival, with a 1,200-year history, is held in Futarasan-jinja Shrine every April. A fleet of portable shrines decorated in artificial cherry blossoms joyfully parade through the town. It is also known as the festival that brings spring to Nikko. The performance of people working in unison as they run up to the main shrine with their portable shrines is impressive.
Tourists can also take part in carrying the portable shrines. Feel free to give it a try!
