    Lake Chuzenji

Enjoy a spectacular view from the excursion boat!
Lake Chuzenji is the largest lake in Tochigi, framed by 25 kilometres of incredible nature. The area used to be a popular summer resort for foreigners in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The villas of French and Belgian embassies can still be found here. You can enjoy seasonal charms by the lake. Walking trails surround the water’s edge and there is an excursion boat available on the lake. The views from the lake are spectacular, particularly when the cherry blossoms or azaleas are blooming or when the autumn leaves are turning. The “Koyo-meguri” tour, enjoying autumn leaves reflecting on the lake, is highly recommended.

Shaved ice made with Nikko’s natural spring water

Try our Specialty! Shaved ice made from Nikko’s natural water!
Nikko is home to 3 of the 5 ice houses or "Himuro" that currently exist in all of Japan.
("Hi" means "ice", "muro" means "room".)
The other ice houses are found in Chichibu and Karuizawa.
Nikko’s natural water is frozen for 2 weeks and preserved in an ice room year round.
Here’s the good news : the shaved ice is soft as shown and won’t give you a headache even if you eat it quickly!
Each shop in Nikko has its own shaved ice specialty.
Try ujikintoki with maccha (powdered green tea), syrup and bean jam on top.
Maybe strawberry or melon syrup is more your style. Why not try them all?
